Excellent buy January 30, 2008 D & A (San Jose, CA USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Fits like a glove under my SyncMaster 204BW. Probably won't fit under monitors that can't be height adjusted. Sound is full, clear and can surprisingly fill a large room. It's out of the way, uses up otherwise useless space and hides its own cord as well as the monitor's. The volume dial is large and it's easy to locate in a hurry - and pushing it to mute couldn't be easier. On the right side is standard headphone jack. Highly, highly recommended.
Form & Function in a small package! November 13, 2007 looking around (Centennial, Colorado) 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
I am extremely pleased with my Altec Lansing SoundBar - the sound is exceptionally good for its size - it is a full and rich sound, nothing whiny about it, no tin-can effect; it's not audiophile quality, but for that I have my separate stereo set up in the living room (curiously enough it is also a sound bar - this one albeit a Yamaha YSP-1000.)
It's very basic, but then again for the price is just perfect (I paid less with one of Amazon's coupons!) - it has the standard head-phone jack and an aux jack to hook up anything extra (like a mp3 player.) I mainly use it to listen to Internet radio (I-Tunes, Live 365, etc) - people that want to do a bit more rumble (i.e. kids playing games) will probably want a more complicated set up.
It fits pretty neatly under any standard flat screen monitor, and blends in with its modern lines and black and gray color.
If you're looking for a simple solution and do not want a "spider-web" of cables - something that sounds very good and looks neat - this is the solution for you.
I highly recommend it.
Not enough power but has rich sound July 2, 2008 Sajid G. Mulla 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The soundbar does not have enough power but delivers enough power to produce rich vibrant sound through out the room. If you do not have 3-4 inches underneath your monitor then this will not fit, but if you have enough space like i do then the speaker will look fine in front of the monitor not only does this product have aesthetic appeal but the blue light when you turn the speaker on is not annoying when turned on. If you turn the volume on max there will be some distortion since I did hear some crackle when I did put it on max.
However, if you don't do major gaming and hate to turn the audio all the way up then this is the perfect speaker to get. I do some gaming but I really do not listen all the way up so this speaker was perfect for me. However if you want loud bass and have the room for it get the logitech Z2300 but some people did complain about the midrange so ultimately its your choice.
Super HDTV upgrade speaker February 22, 2009 shopdiva (Albuquerque, NM USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the SoundBar to improve the poor sound quality on an otherwise excellent 22" Toshiba HDTV in my study. I wanted good basic speakers with minimal footprint, hassle, wires, etc. The SoundBar has a solid mid-range (plus decent bass) sound and fits my need perfectly. I've moved it behind the TV for esthetic reasons and there's no noticable decrease in sound quality. It's certainly not a home theater replacement, but for the very reasonable Amazon pricetag ($50 when I purchased), it more than met my expectations. Just FYI, I tested the SoundBar with my Dell Inspiron laptop and the sound quality and easy set-up are just as impressive.
Very Nice as a TV Upgrade February 19, 2010 Scott Davis (Stoneham, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can't say how good this product is with a computer. I'm evaluating it as an upgrade to the TV speakers inside a flat screen TV. As such I'd highly recommend it. My setup might be similar to yours. I have a Vizio 32" TV. I got a stereo RCA to mini-headphone jack cable, male to male. The Vizio has audio out, and has an onscreen menu selection that let's you shut off the internal speakers, and another one that lets you set the external speakers to variable. This slaves the speakers to your remote volume control and mute button. I needed to get an extension cord to connect the wall wart to the switched outlet of the cable box (no room for the wart.) The TV doesn't have a switched outlet and since I only want the FX3020 for TV viewing (I have a big stereo for watching movies), this should make it stone simple as a substitute for the internal speakers. I set the sound to "pop" in the vizio menu and upped the bass about 1/4 turn by holding in the big black button on the Altec three seconds, if you have a Vizio you can try that.
I did a very unfair A/B with the flat screen's speakers. Consumer reports mentions the Vizio as having (half black dot) below average sound quality even for TVs. They weren't wrong. The sound of the TV is just grating. Grainy treble, transistory, $20 clock radio sound.
What a relief this Altec is to my ears! Now I'm an acoustic musician, have a 10k (that's right, $10,000) home ultra-fi system, class A circuitry, analog, floor-standing speakers, components hand-made by individuals, ridiculous I know. Guests enjoy it. Not loud, accurate.
You'd think I'd be upset that the Altec has very colored sound. It has a fat bass, steep rolloff in the treble, rich, but not really muddy. Fairly clear. Very listenable, non-fatiguing. It's just great to listen to newscasts, TV shows. I can't say about all the soundstage marketing nonsense. It's below the TV, it sounds like it is below the TV. There is no discernable stereo at 10'. The speakers are about a foot apart inside. You might liken the sound to an old console TV, mid-fi car stereos, mitsubishi electronics, cambridge soundworks or fried speakers. It is clearer than the former, but that type of sound.
It doesn't go deep or even very high. It isn't very dynamic, but it isn't totally choked either, probably due to the bass radiator. Just mellow. Suits relaxing TV watching perfectly. It's a keeper. I pity the fools who stay with stock speakers. Ouch!
If you want a taste of high def sound, do try Axiom bookshelf speakers, NAD electronics. There are others, but a lot of junk. You can get excellent clear sound for <$1000. Cables don't matter. You should see the cables inside the boxes! Just my 2 cents since I get asked a lot after people hear my setup.
