Cutest little speaker you'll be likely to see February 17, 2010 T. Niccum (Burnsville, MN United States) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
My wife and I had been on a recent trip to the tropics and a few days it rained to the point that we really couldn't be outside much. Stuck in our room, we turned to my iPhone. I had loaded up some comedy CDs from iTunes prior to our trip. If we laid quitely on the bed we could listen to the iPhone, and it was OK, but about what you'd expect. Weak volume, tinny, etc. When we got home I thought I'd research to see if there were very light, easy to transport speakers. Being a fairly light packer I wanted my solution to be very small and light.
I stumbled on the X-Mini II on Amazon during my research, and ordered it. What a nice surprise. The speaker is not much bigger than a golf ball, but expands a bit when you twist it - there's an accordian-like structure that allows it to elongate. You don't have to do that, but the sound seems a bit better if you do. The x-mini comes with a small USB to USB-mini cable for recharging. Mine came fully charged and I used it for an hour or so... it didn't need to be recharged even then. Since i carry an iPhone I always have some way of charging that device, and whatever method I use will also work with the x-mini.
The sound was quite surprisingly good. Deep and as loud as I can imagine needing it. I don't know if you could use it for a big party, but I'm sure in a room with several people it would be just fine. I think you'll be surprised by how good it sounds.
Best Speaker for Netbook Computers April 21, 2010 J. C. McGleish (Homer, MI) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am one of these people who use a netbook computer for many applications, including YouTube, Audio Books, and Music Listening. The only problem is that small laptops do not have speakers with good, clear sound. Enter the X-Mini II Portable Capsule Speaker.
It is small, doesn't take much space in the carrying bag (or desktop), and has an incredibly clear and loud sound. It literally transforms your laptop! I have been able to play YouTube videos and Audio Books for friends in restaurants and they have no problem hearing the sound. And I mean hearing it *clearly*.
This tiny miracle is a perfect gift for anyone that has a small (13") laptop or netbook. The improvement in sound is stunning. A convenient cord is built into the unit. Every 11 hours the unit can be charged by plugging a small extension cord into the USB port of the laptop. The rechargeable battery does the rest.
The styling and design of this unit have won numerous awards. It's truly unique. And the speaker twists open to enhance the bass. For such a little unit, the sound is just remarkable. In particular, the sound is very clear and it's easy to understand singing or audio books.
I haven't yet daisy-chained two speakers together, because I gave the 2nd one to a friend with a netbook. It was just too good . . . I had to share it. Appropriate for iPods, mp3 players, tape players and small laptop computers. You'll never have to buy a battery and it will enhance any netbook you connect it to.
The red wine color is very stylish. The volume control on the side is easier to adjust than trying to fiddle with the computer volume. The X-Mini II speaker is like a "product of the year". I totally love mine!
Loving it! February 23, 2010 a buyer of stuff (earth) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I just received this speaker and I love it! The color is great.Size wise the speaker is about half the size of a tennis ball, expanding it makes it a bit larger.Build quality is very nice.Sound quality is excellent for it's size, really it's quite amazing. It's loud and without sounding tinny or distorted.I use it with my DSlite and my Ipod Nano.
My only minor quibble is that the cord is really short ( look at the customer submitted photos on the Black X-Mini II speaker) Also , you must remember to turn it off after use.
Overall, this is one of those rare items that you will love instantly.A nice treat for yourself.
Exceeds expectations February 17, 2010 Linda Williams (Maryland) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I listen to books all the time (gave up tv years ago) and have had many portable speaker systems. This one has great sound quality and unusually loud volume. Now that I listen to my books on my mp3 player (Sansa Clip - by far the very best mp3 for listening to books.) I find that the external volume control is much, much more convenient, so I appreciate that. I have mixed emotions about the rechargeable vs. replaceable batteries but this little guy runs for a long time on a single charge, recharges fairly quickly, and uses little charge in the "on but not playing" mode. The round shape is cute but not very convenient for portability - doesn't fit in your pocket. If they made this in the shape of my Clip, I could velcro them together and life would be perfect.
Great sound in a small package February 17, 2010 Jose T. Montelongo (Miami, FL USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've been using this speaker for several weeks with my Zune and simply love it. Considering the size (really small) the quality and power are great. Besides, the flexibility of having its own rechargeable (via USB) battery is also great, and to complete a very good design, you can chain connect several of them to increase the overall power.
If you're looking for a extremely portable speaker for your portable player, this is a no-brainer.
