Updated after 4 months of use, read on if u care about quality May 17, 2010 W.H. (Los Angeles, CA USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I believe the best way to tell two speakers apart is by listening to them side by side so you know their strengths and weaknesses.
Below is a list of the 2.1 speakers I own that are similarly to the AR506: Z4, Expressionist, Companion2 and AR504. Each of the speaker is hooked up to an HTPC that I have setup for each person in my family, in their own room, over the years. Granted, some of the older PCs had nicer audio add-on cards (unlike the newer machines all use built-in audio on the motherboard) and each room has different furnitures affecting the accoustics and all that technical mumble jumbo, but I made sure all were sending line-level audios without any EQ adjustments. I also played back using the same movie LOTR for consistency.
Here is how I would rank my speakers (taking price into consideration):
#1 AR506 >>>>>>>> volume B, treble A, midrange A, bass A (about 59 dollars)
#2 Expressionist >>> volume B, treble A+, midrange A, bass B (about 119 dollars)
#3 Z4 >>>>>>>>>>> volume A, treble B, midrange B, bass A+ (about 99 dollars)
#4 Companion2 >>>> volume B, treble C, midrange C, bass C (about 89 dollars)
To my ears, the AR506 sounded very good across most part (not all) of the movie. It is during few specific parts of the movie that I can hear minor deficiencies. The highs (Nazgul screeches) were clear but not as bright as the Expressionist (here the Expressionist wins). The midrange (most of the vocals and foreground music) was full-bodied, detailed and natural. The lows (background war drums, rumbles, etc) were tight & deep but lacked the raw power of Z4 (here the Z4 wins with thunderous lows althought they sounded kind of loose/boomy). The worst performing speaker of all these was actually Bose which sounded muddy, what a shock! In terms of volume I would say all speakers offer more than adequate OOMPH for a normal sized room of about 20x20 feet with 5 people sitting in it.
*** Update 7-15-2010 ***
After 4 months of use, I just had to revise my review to reflect the following NEGATIVES:
#1 Wires wires wires. Although they are standard RCA type (not proprietary like altecs and logitechs) but they are short! I had to buy another set of RCA cables so I can separate the satellites beyond 6 feet. They are only $2 a pair in local radioshack but Eagle should have made them longer.
#2 Remote remote remote. The wired remote continues to throw me off even after 4 months of use. When I plug in the headphone jack on the wired remote, I must press the MUTE button located on the side AND the volume dial has no effect while I am using the headphone jack. Errr...Why? I don't know, it's just strange like that.
#3 My last set of speakers was the AR504 back in 2009. When I bought them, I thought there could not be a better sounding 3-piece speaker under $50. In my opinion, that still holds TRUE today. The AR506 does sound better but I miss AR504's wireless remote and digital EQ, which allows me to boost the treble & bass when needed. Tuned properly, the AR504 can sound better than AR506. But that is due to the EQ, not the actual speaker so that works ONLY when I keep the volume LOW to MEDIUM. Once I crank up the volume, AR506 wins again. But I still think AR504 offers more bang for the buck.

Must Buy Item June 27, 2010 C.K 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This Eagles blow the Altecs out of the water, sound wise and money wise. I cannot believe I paid over $100 for my previous set of FX3022 expressionist.
There is simply no competition in sound quality. The Eagles are better....this is just amazing.
When I browsed these Eagles, I was doubtful at first due to the low price. But the rave reviews and the crazily high buy rate were like well....phenomenal....so I decided to give this a shot.
When I received it and hooked up next to my HD TV, all my music came alive. WOW! What a bass, mid and highs. Everything sounded deep, rich, clear and just plain alive.
I thought I was getting something really good, but I never thought it would actually surpass my expectations by so much. And I am a person who spends a lot of time around audio equipments.
plesently surprised May 23, 2010 Luis Narimatsu (Bainbridge GA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Plesently surprised right out of the box. I had ordered this 2.1 system before the negative reviews starting coming in. So I was expecting to have to send them back before opening. Thank god my 3 year old decide to open the box and I went ahead and connected them. I had the problem of getting no sound at first-had the mute button on. Once I figured that out the sound that came out was awesome. I was a DJ in my past life and I had to use all kinds of crossover;equilizers etc to get similiar sound...for a small unit it fills my home office with crisp highs andkicking lows and a good mid...I am sorry some had problems with their unit...I am extremely happy and would recommend to others.
Great value! June 25, 2010 Peter 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Only [..] bucks. Are you kidding me!!!! I love Amazon and Eagle Tech.
This speakers live up to their name brand and Amazon has the lowest price anywhere I searched.
I purchased this for my office at work and WHAT A SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE. All sounds are crystal clear, rich and enjoyable.
When I told my co-workers I only spent 60 dollars, nobody believed me....especially the guy that just purchased his Bose companion system.
Big grin on my face!
If you are looking to purchase a 2.1 speaker system say like [..] price range, this set will do just fine. You may want to seek out friends who own Bose just to see their look on the face when they listen to this set.
Really good stuff July 28, 2010 yoyo 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of my friends owns a pair of Eagle Arion speaker model ET-AR504 and they sound sweet. I really wanted to buy that one because I have listened to it in person, but I picked this one instead because I really liked the headphone extension jack and the orange colored rings looked sharp.
All the negative reviews they made me nervous at first, so I called the manufacturer to get a feel of how they handle customers. Guess what, the lady that handled my call did a great job so I felt they do stand behind their products. Guess what, I am glad I bought this! The music coming out of this speaker is just sweet. I am now hearing details that I never heard before. At very high volume, the bass do get a little too much and drowns out the highs and mids. No biggie, just use EQ to lower the bass a little bit and we're good. The real surprise came in when I cranked up the volume...there was very little distortion. WOW! Now that is what I call music! Sweet!
Other than the initial anxiety due to the negative reviews, I have no complaints whatsoever about the sound quality of this speaker. It is really good for the price. Plus, I know Amazon would refund me in case something went wrong so go ahead and give this a try, you won't regret it.
